DISCLAIMER: I am not a celebrity obsessed blogger. This blog is not about my take on celebrities and their every move. I am not Perez Hilton, I actually have a life. This post is simply my take on an event that I really enjoy, the Academy Awards.
Last night was the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. If you know me at all, you know I LOVE Awards Season. I love the Golden Globes, the Grammys, the Oscars, the SAG Awards. I love award shows. Period. It wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary to catch me watch the People's Choice Awards, the Teen Choice Awards, the MTV VMAs, the MTV Movie Awards, and even the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. I think you get the point.
Of all the award shows, the Academy Awards (aka the Oscars) is THE award show of award shows. It has been dubbed "Hollywood's Biggest Night" for a reason. All the A-listers are there decked out in clothes that were designed for them by the fashion world's top designers and jewelry that was loaned to them by the world's top jewelers. I am not a fashion expert by any means but I definitely have a few opinions regarding some of the fashion I saw on the red carpet last night.
First of all, I started watching the red carpet on E! because, let's be honest, E! makes the red carpet 100x more interesting. However, I had to change the channel to ABC so I could feel like I was watching a legit red carpet since ABC was airing the actually Oscars. Do I regret the decision? Kind of. The red carpet hosts were boring on ABC. I think, next time, I'm going to stick with Ryan Seacrest, Giuliana Rancic, and Kelly Osbourne. They're good people.
Secondly, I'll tell you who I thought was among the best dressed. I'll start with Anne Hathaway. I love Anne Hathaway. Based on my love for her, I may be biased in saying I liked all of her outfit changes all night. Jennifer Hudson looked absolutely amazing! How can you NOT love Jennifer Hudson? I just started following her on twitter last night just because she wowed me at the Oscars last night. I mean, I always liked her. She has a great voice and she's overcome so many obstacles. Plus, she upstaged Beyoncé in Dream Girls. It may not be a difficult task acting-wise but Beyoncé is a fierce bitch.
Halle Berry, Jennifer Lawrence, Camila Alves, Hilary Swank, Reese Witherspoon, Mandy Moore, Mila Kunis, and Sandra Bullock looked gorgeous last night! Gwyneth Paltrow looked good, too, but I wouldn't say she looked amazing. She definitely made the cut for best dressed though.
I haven't decided who I think was the absolute best dressed. I think it's a tie between Halle Berry and Mila Kunis for me. Mila Kunis wins more points in my book everyday; especially since she is no longer dating Macaulay Culkin. He's such a joke. I love "Home Alone" and "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" but that's enough out of you Mr. Culkin.
As far as the worst dressed is concerned: Cate Blanchett could have used a sassy gay friend (Google/YouTube it) before walking the red carpet. I think she could tell she looked stupid. She didn't walk with a lot of confidence, that's for certain. I felt like there should have been a clock around her neck to fill that circular space in the top part of the dress. It was weird.
Helena Bonham Carter is a freaking weirdo. She looked dumb. I'm all for individuality but why come to the Oscars dressed for Halloween? She's just as annoying (but less obnoxious) as Russell Brand aka probably my least favorite celebrity. Katy Perry could have done so much better. To each there own, right? Whatever, I'll let them live.
I think Melissa Leo could have picked a better dress. I wasn't impressed. Scarlett Johansonn definitely was a hot mess. Her hair even looked crazy. Better luck next time, kiddo. Michelle Williams (the actress, not the "singer" from Destiny's Child) actually looked good. I just think she needed A LOT more color. She is too pale and too platinum blonde to be wearing the dress that she wore. Come on, are you trying to blind us? I didn't like Amy Adams' dress at all. It was too "Rose DeWitt Bukater." Maybe that's why she lost the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role that everyone thought she was guaranteed to win...who knows?
I'm going to get this out of the way: there was nothing special about Natalie Portman last night. She had a pretty dress and a cute baby bump to match but she wasn't as radiant and stunning as everyone made her out to be. I wouldn't put her on my worst dress list but I am not going to praise her like everyone else has been. I like Natalie Portman but I don't think she's as innocent as everyone makes her out to be.
Lastly, in terms of fashion, Nicole Kidman looked like the devil with her red hair and pasty skin. There is NOTHING attractive about Nicole Kidman. She's pasty so stop calling her porcelain! Her dress was atrocious and she's just all around annoying. I don't want to spend too much time talking about Nicole Kidman, that's how much I think she's worth.
That's enough about fashion. Check out my next post about last night's winners and losers and the co-hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway.
Once I get more into this whole blogging thing, I will start posting pictures and adding links to spice things up a little bit.
For now, here is a link to the official website of the Oscars. This link is specifically for the Red Carpet: http://oscar.go.com/red-carpet/photo/index/716370/721448
